AAMPS – THE COMPANY
AAMPS – African Association for Medicinal Plants Standards is a non profit company registered in Mauritius dedicated to the development of quality control and quality assurance standards for African medicinal plants and herbal products.
AAMPS – THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
AAMPS is run by a Board of Directors elected every two years by the Association Members. The Board of Directors consists of a Chairman, a Vice-Chairman and three other Directors, one of whom acts as Company Secretary. There are, in addition, four Alternate Directors who act for and on behalf of the appointed Directors when these are not available.
Thomas Brendler
Thomas's consultancy business, PlantaPhile® focuses on all aspects of herbal product development, registration, and licensing since 1993. As a consultant to the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Centre for Development of Enterprise and the International Trade Centre he has been involved in the preparation, management, and execution of various public funded research projects.
In 2005 he co-founded the Association of African Medicinal Plants Standards. He was the editor-in-chief of the African Herbal Pharmacopoeia (2010). Thomas has also been the author of Herb-CD, a digital encyclopedia of medicinal plants, and co-authored, edited and contributed to a wide range of publications on phytotherapy and natural product regulation, most notably Physician's Desk Reference for Herbal Medicines, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Indian Ocean Islands, and A Practical Guide to Licensing Herbal Medicinal Products.
Thomas is a member of the editorial boards of Phytotherapy Research and Journal of Ethnopharmacology, and a regular peer reviewer for a variety of scientific journals. He is also affiliated with the Department of Botany and Plant Biotechnology at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Traditional Medicinals Inc., USA.
Ulrich Feiter
Ulrich is the founder of Parceval Pty Ltd and has led the company for more than 25 years. The results of his vision have been a reputation in the industry for the highest quality products born out of extensive knowledge, research and innovation.
With his knowledge of and insight into the field of complementary medicine and African botanicals, Ulrich heads up the consulting aspect of Parceval.

Prof David R. Katerere
David is the Research Platform Chair of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Advancement in Africa (PBA2) at Tshwane University of Technology. He is the Chair of the Faculty Research Ethics Committee, a position he has held since 2018. He has been a member of the FCRE since 2014 and was previously Chair of the MRC Animal Ethics Scientific Review Committee (2006 – 2009).
Prof Katerere holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. He has worked in pharmaceutical and biotech practice and research in the past 25 years in 4 countries on 3 continents. He has several inventions to his name including the nutraceutical, Niselo and CovidConnect App for use in clinical trials and post-recovery and KovaNix hand and surface sanitizer. He has published over 50 journal articles and is co-editor of three books: Ethnoveterinary Botanical Medicines (T&F) (2010), Systems Analysis Approach for Complex Global Challenges (Springer) (2018) and Traditional and Indigenous Knowledge for the Modern Era (T&F) (2019).
He is a member of advisory committees of SAHPRA and the Global Health Supply Chain Consortium, co-founded by faculty at University of Michigan and University of Southern California. Prof Katerere teaches and researches across the pharmaceutical and biotech value chain including product development from medicinal plants (for food, nutraceuticals and medicines) and clinical testing, substandard and falsified medicines / vaccines and medicine governance.
He is a part competitive Toastmaster and is now a keen Rotarian and member of Pretoria Capital Club.

L. Denzil Phillips
Denzil has worked for more than 30 years in the field of development and sustainable sourcing of medicinal and aromatic plants especially from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. He was co founder of AAMPS and co-editor of the first African Herbal Pharmacopeia.
Denzil is now based in Barbados and has spent the last 2 years focusing on helping set up the Global Frankincense Alliance and the completion of the second African Herbal Pharmacopeia

AAMPS – THE SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Apart from the Board of Directors AAMPS has a Scientific Advisory Committee consisting of eminent experts in the field of medicinal plants, phytomedicine and herbal products. The overall objective of the Scientific Advisory Committee is to act as the scientific counterpart to the commercial component.
The Scientific Advisory Committee advises the Board of Directors on the development and application of AAMPS standards and provides scientific and technical advice to AAMPS Members, Associates and Collaborators as and when required. Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee are appointed by the AAMPS Board of Directors from time to time.
The Board of Directors and the Scientific Advisory Committee are supported by an Executive Secretary, who is primarily responsible for membership, subscription and support services. All other AAMPS services are provided on a subcontracted basis
